At Proefschriftspecialist we can make your thesis just as you want it. Most theses all have the same size of 170 x 240 mm finished as a softcover. Would you like to have a different size, a hardcover version or a special cover than we can also take care of this of course.
Special editions will take some extra time and money, but it can certainly be worth it. We are happy to explore all the options and think along with you to see how you can make your cover really special and give it the wow-factor. An impression of the available options can be found below. If you have any questions about this than don`t hesitate to contact us. We are happy to help you!
Spot-UV varnish:
This technique works by applying a transparent glossy coating to certain parts of the cover that allows you to really highlight those parts. This works best in combination with a matt laminate of the cover and against a dark background color. The varnish standardly flat, but it is also possible to use thickening spot-UV varnish, which lies slightly on top of the paper so that the relief can be felt.
Embossing:
By “embossing” the cover you can raise shapes and text on the cover. This is done by creating a mould and a counterprint in the exact shape of the text or shape you want to emboss. By placing the cover in exactly the right place between the mould and the counterprint, the embossing is applied in the cover. This shape comes up on the outside of the cover and can also be seen on the inside of the cover in exactly the same shape, only than the otherway round. This can also be done the other way around and than it is called a blind embossing.
Die-cut:
By die-cutting the cover you can cut out shapes and/or text, for example the title, out of the cover. This can have a really nice effect if the first page of the inside has a nicely colored print or contains a cool image that is subtle visible through the cover.
Foil printing:
In foil printing, a (mostly glossy) foil is applied to the cover by means of a steel mould, heat and pressure. The foil is available in various colors such as gold, silver and copper, but also red, green and even holographic foil is possible. Although it is not the most economical option, you can certainly give the cover a very fancy and bling-bling look.
The thesis as a hardcover:
Producing all theses as a hardcover is quite expensive but we can produce hardcovers even one by one. It can be very nice to make a few hardcover copies in addition to the softcover thesis as a luxury version as a gift for yourself or your loved ones. Because a hardcover has slightly different dimensions than a softcover, the file for the cover will have to be adjusted. Including adjustment of the cover, the first hardcover copy costs € 60.00. Additional copies cost € 20.00 each.
